Executive Summary for Medical Support
Vancouver 2010

The 2010 Winter Games will poise several challenges to visitors in need of medical attention. The government owned health system in Canada is based on the principal of rationed resources and is not equipped to handle the huge influx of visitors that will occur during the Games. Private medical resources are limited. Whistler is in a remote location with no significant medical presence.  February is the peak of flu season and the winter conditions will lead to an increase incidence of medical injuries and illnesses. In summary, corporations hosting programs during the Games will be dealing with an

  • Overcrowded public health system with limited resources
  • Inadequate access to convenient and timely medical care
  • Significant incident of illnesses and injuries

The safety and security of corporations’ guests is of the utmost concern during the Games, and as such, organizations are looking to partner with a medical risk management provider during the Games that can deliver high quality medical care in a timely fashion both in Vancouver and Whistler.
